Before I started Strength Training at The Strength Yard, I would wonder, would a young male trainer understand the needs, health issues (hormonal) and goals of a woman almost twice his age?
However Terence is a patient and understanding trainer. He takes the time to listen, whilst gently pushing you beyond your comfort zone. He also takes the time to follow up if he hasn’t seen me at the gym.
I particularly like how patient Terence is, how we can have a chat and a laugh about current things – he has a great way about making you feel comfortable – it’s not all about the workout (even though it is!)
I didn’t train at The Strength Yard for about 9 months. During that time, Terence checked in with me about once a month via whatsapp to see how I was, how he’d like to welcome me back anytime. One day in May it was just the right time and said yes! How about this date and time? It was just the kick up the butt I needed to get started. Now since May I have been consistently working out 2-3 times per week.
Terence has also been great at training my 12 yo daughter who is at boarding school in Australia. When she is back home in Singapore on holidays she has PT sessions with him 3 times per week. He manages to make it fun and engaging for her.
I love training at The Strength Yard because it has a real community feel about it. It’s not glamourous, it’s the real deal with it’s rubber floors, racks and barbells. I may be one of the oldest to train there but the young guys who go always say hello, help me move a bench when I need it and it’s reasonably priced as well. I also love the fact that I can park outside without having to drive into a shopping centre or in a multi-level car park.
Terence and Edmund have created a great gym with a community feel. They remember everyone’s names and make you feel at home (whilst getting ripped at the same time 😉
